Abstract
This dissertation aims to investigate the removal of water pollution caused by Methylene Blue using one of the agricultural wastes, namely pomegranate peels, after their chemical treatment with sodium hydroxide to produce an adsorbent material. The study relied on the adsorption technique due to its effectiveness and simplicity in wastewater treatment. The work included the preparation and characterization of the adsorbent material using several analytical techniques, followed by the investigation of the effects of experimental parameters on the adsorption process, including pH, contact time, and the initial dye concentration. The obtained results revealed that chemically treated pomegranate peels exhibited a good adsorption capacity toward the dye. The experimental data were analyzed using adsorption kinetic models and isotherm studies. The adsorption kinetics were found to fit well with the pseudo-second-order model, while the adsorption isotherm was best described by the Freundlich model. Furthermore, the Langmuir model estimated a maximum adsorption capacity of 87.71 mg/g. This study therefore confirms the potential valorization of pomegranate peels in the treatment of water pollution through economical and environmentally friendly methods
