Abstract

"الملخص: الحروب البونية، أو ما يعرف بالحروب الرومانية–القرطاجية، مثلت من أعنف صراعات العالم القديم بين روما ذات القوة البرية وقرطاجة البحرية، وامتدت أحداثها بين 264 و146 ق.م، ويعد كتاب بوليبيوس ""التاريخ"" أهم مصدر لتلك المرحلة لكونه عاصر الأحداث وشهد سقوط قرطاجة، وقد مكنه تكوينه الفكري، القائم على الفلسفة اليونانية والخبرة السياسية والعسكرية، من تقديم تحليل عقلاني بعيد عن السرد البسيط، اعتبر بوليبيوس أن هذه الحروب نتجت أساسا عن توسع روما وصدام مصالحها مع محاولات قرطاجة الدفاع عن تجارتها، غير أن الدراسات الحديثة أبرزت أبعادا أخرى كتفاقم التنافس الاقتصادي، والصراع الثقافي، والأخطاء الدبلوماسية، كما ركز بوليبيوس على تفسير صعود روما بفضل التنظيم والانضباط، محاولا استخلاص الدروس للقارئ اليوناني، ورغم القيمة العلمية لكتاباته فقد وجه إليه نقد بانحيازه النسبي لروما وتجاهله بعض الجوانب الاجتماعية والاقتصادية The Punic Wars, or the Roman–Carthaginian Wars, were among the most violent conflicts of the ancient world, between land-based Rome and naval Carthage. Their events extended from 264 to 146 BCE. Polybius’ Histories is the main source for this period, since he lived during the events and witnessed the fall of Carthage. His intellectual background, shaped by Greek philosophy and political and military experience, allowed him to present a rational analysis beyond simple narration. Polybius argued that these wars resulted mainly from Rome’s expansion and the clash of its interests with Carthage’s attempts to protect its trade. Yet modern studies have shown other dimensions such as growing economic rivalry, cultural conflict, and diplomatic mistakes. Polybius also explained Rome’s rise through organization and discipline, trying to draw lessons for the Greek reader. Despite the scientific value of his writings, he was criticized for a relative bias toward Rome and for ignoring some social and economic aspects.
