The adoption of flexible mobility solutions offers significant social and environmental benefits, particularly for low-income users in regions with harsh desert climates. However, achieving a sustainable transition away from fossil fuel–dependent energy systems require overcoming several technical and economic challenges. Addressing these barriers is essential for advancing green mobility powered by decentralized renewable energy solutions, such as solar photovoltaic systems. This thesis aims to investigate the design and optimization of a solar-powered charging infrastructure for shared e-scooter fleets on university campuses in arid regions. Focusing on El Oued, the study evaluates the techno-economic feasibility and socio-environmental impacts of the proposed energy system that includes grid connected rooftop PV modules, batteries, and electric scoters. Different charging and storage configurations were analysed to identify the most reliable and cost-effective solution. To ensure practical relevance, technical findings were complemented by a student survey examining user behaviour and acceptance of shared e-mobility services. Results indicate that a 50/50 optimized cycling strategy combined with lithium-ion battery storage provides the best balance between performance, reliability, and cost. The proposed framework offers a scalable approach for integrating renewable energy into campus mobility systems, supporting Green Campus initiatives and reducing transportation-related carbon emissions.
