Abstract

"Hydraulic structures such as dams are equipped with a structure at their top that prevents them from being submerged during heavy rainfall. The flow through this spillway creates a torrential flow at the base of the structure, which can threaten its stability over time. To maintain the stability of the structure, a stilling basin must be constructed downstream of it, where the potential and kinetic energy can be absorbed, and the flow regime transitions from torrential to fluvial or calm. This phenomenon is known as the hydraulic jump. The stilling basin can take various geometric forms rectangular, triangular, trapezoidal with zero, positive, or negative slopes, and with either rough or smooth surfaces. This study focuses on the dimensions of the stilling basin, particularly its height.
