Photovoltaic Water Pumping Systems (PVWPS) are an effective and sustainable solution for water supply in remote and agricultural regions, but their performance is strongly influenced by environmental variations and control strategy efficiency. This work focuses on the modeling and performance enhancement of an induction motor-driven PVWPS using advanced MPPT and control techniques. A MATLAB/Simulink model of the PV array and DCDC boost converter was developed, and three MPPT methods (P&O, INC, and AD-INC) were evaluated under varying irradiance and temperature. Results showed that the AD-INC method outperforms the conventional techniques by providing faster convergence, higher tracking accuracy, and lower power oscillations. For the drive system, an optimized Direct Torque Control (DTC) strategy based on a Gorilla Troops Optimizer (GTO)-tuned PI controller (PIGTO-DTC) was proposed. The GTO algorithm was used to tune PI gains to minimize speed error and torque ripples under different operating conditions. Simulation results confirmed that the proposed PI-GTO-DTC significantly enhances system performance compared to conventional PI-DTC, resulting in reduced torque and flux ripples, smoother current waveforms, and enhanced operating stability. In general, combining AD-INC MPPT with PIGTO-DTC leads to a more efficient, stable, and reliable PVWPS.
