Abstract
Green manufacturing of nanoparticles is considered one of the most important
sustainable trends in nanotechnology, as it is based on natural and environmentally
friendly sources instead of chemicals. In this work, calcium oxide nanoparticles (CaO
NPs) were manufactured from eggshells by thermal calcination at a temperature of
700 °C, which changes the main calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) in the shell to pure CaO.
Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were also manufactured using the aqueous
extract of the jujube plant (Ziziphus lotus) as a reducing agent and green stabilizing
agent. All prepared nanoparticles were characterized using spectroscopic techniques:
UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The zinc
oxide nanoparticles showed a size of 19 nm and 20 nm for calcium oxide. This work
highlights the importance of recycling waste and using plants in the production of
effective and sustainable nanomaterials, which is consistent with the Sustainable
Development Goals
