Abstract
The study explores Artificial Intelligence (AI) Discourse in the film Finch (2021) through the perspective of posthumanist thought. It aims to investigate the representation of Artificial Intelligence in Finch (2021) through deconstructing human exceptionalism, examining the triad relationship between the human Finch, the robot Jeff, and the dog Goodyear, tracing Jeff's embodiment evolution, and the reconstruction of Jeff's legacy as relational practice in post-apocalyptic Earth. To achieve this purpose a qualitative single case study was employed. A purposive selection of scenes was conducted and semiotic close reading along with thematic analysis were employed. The findings reveal five themes that depict Artificial Intelligence representation throughout the film. These include the post-apocalyptic Earth functions as a catalyst, distributed cognition and emergent subjectivity through Jeff's embodiment, leading to the destabilisation of the human-machine binary. The findings also highlight Jeff's linguistic evolution from code to kin and the emergence of multispecies kinship through the triad interaction and relationship. Finally, the film reprograms legacy as relational practice rather than a form of biological transmission. Overall, the findings reflect the human-machine-animal triad as relational assemblage grounded in interaction, practice, and hybrid care, while Jeff's embodiment challenges and destabilises human-machine binary. This study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding around the cinematic representations of Artificial Intelligence by examining it through a posthumanist lens.
