Abstract

This study aims to highlight the effects of excessive and uncontrolled consumption of dietary supplements on kidney health and renal function. The theoretical part focused on the definition and types of dietary supplements, as well as the major kidney diseases associated with the excessive use of supplements such as proteins, creatine, and high-dose vitamins, in addition to the risks related to heavy metal-contaminated products. The practical part was based on a field survey conducted in El Oued involving 200 participants, including 164 healthy individuals and 36 patients, in order to assess supplement consumption habits and awareness of their health risks. The results revealed widespread use of dietary supplements along with insufficient awareness regarding their side effects, especially on kidney health. The study concluded that the irrational use of dietary supplements may pose a serious risk to renal function, highlighting the importance of health awareness and rational consumption of these products.
