This dissertation examines Leila Aboulela’s novel Minaret (2005) as a representative 'Muslim novel' written in English. It argues that the contributions of this genre have shaped the emerging canon of postcolonial spirituality. The divine in Islamic spirituality is articulated through narrative forms, ethical consciousness, and struggles over identity. Using qualitative textual analysis informed by postcolonial theory and postsecular criticism, the study examines the novel’s Islamic epistemology, with particular focus on diasporic displacement, female agency, veiling, and spiritual transformation, to demonstrate how faith operates not merely as a cultural marker but as a legitimate framework of knowledge and self- understanding. The findings show that Minaret challenges the secular marginalization of religion in literary criticism and instead presents piety as a source of empowerment, moral formation, and belonging. The dissertation concludes that the 'Muslim novel' in English should be recognized as an important literary mode that offers alternative intellectual and aesthetic paradigms for reading contemporary Muslim experiences.
