Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were carried out to investigate both the global and local reactivity descriptors of the studied molecules. These theoretical analyses were complemented by structure–activity relationship (SAR) investigations and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to provide a comprehensive understanding of the corrosion inhibition mechanism. The computational study focused on two arylfuran derivatives, namely 5-(4- bromophenyl)furan-2-carbaldehyde (M1) and 5-(4-chlorophenyl)furan-2-carbaldehyde (M2), with the aim of elucidating the correlation between their electronic characteristics and their inhibitory performance toward mild steel corrosion in acidic media. In addition, toxicity assessments were performed to evaluate their potential effects on human health and the environment. The theoretical findings obtained from the global reactivity parameters, SAR analyses, and MD simulations were found to be in close agreement with the available experimental data, thereby confirming the effectiveness of the investigated compounds as corrosion inhibitors. Furthermore, Fukui function analysis provided valuable insight into the molecular adsorption process by identifying the most reactive atomic centers involved in electron donation and electron acceptance during interaction with the metal surface. Toxicological predictions revealed that both compounds possess relatively low toxicity profiles and limited environmental hazards, highlighting their potential as environmentally acceptable corrosion inhibitors that comply with current safety and sustainability considerations.
