Abstract

This work presents the modeling and simulation of a standalone solar-powered water pumping system. The proposed system consists of a photovoltaic (PV) array, a DC-DC boost converter, a voltage source inverter (VSI), a three-phase induction motor, and a centrifugal pump. To maximize the utilization of solar energy, a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique based on the Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm is implemented. In addition, an Indirect Field Oriented Control (IFOC) strategy is employed to ensure accurate control of the speed and torque of the induction motor. The overall system is modeled and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategies in improving energy utilization, ensuring stable operation, and enhancing the dynamic performance of the water pumping system. The obtained results confirm the suitability of the proposed solution for water pumping applications in remote and off-grid areas.
