Abstract

The study aims to identify the reality of financial technology in Algeria and the various initiatives put forward by the sector’s actors and the emerging companies operating in it, in addition to reviewing the most important steps and initiatives followed by the Central Bank of Algeria as a preliminary step that helps adopt financial technology techniques in Algeria in the future. And the various challenges that may stand in the way of Algeria’s desire to keep pace with technological developments and adopt its various financial technologies. Through the FinxAr Fintech Index, issued by the Arab Monetary Fund in 2021 — which analyzes the efforts of Arab countries to support and adopt financial technologies and highlights the development of the fintech industry and digital financial services in Arab countries during the period (2018–2020) based on a set of indicators — it has been observed that Algeria is still far from adopting these technologies. It still requires significant efforts and strategies to build and strengthen a conducive environment that would enableit to attract fintech companies.
