Tracing History and Reclaiming Identity in Mo TV series Season 02

Abstract

Humans have historically borne the consequences of the destruction and chaos resulting from political systems. Statelessness is one of the grievous outcomes of the modern political system, leaving individuals in an invisible space beyond the reach of legal recognition and protection. This research analyses season two of the Mo TV series as a narrative that articulates the legal and existential void experienced by displaced stateless populations. The series depicts the journey of a stateless Palestinian family residing in the United States, facing the complexities and absurdity of the American immigration system while preserving their cultural ties to their homeland in Palestine. Legal and political research often characterises statelessness through the lens of lack and victimhood, including deficiencies in documentation, protection, and disenfranchisement. This research utilises the series as a case study to humanise the experience of the stateless and to explore the ongoing, proactive processes of reclaiming identity and tracing the history of indigenous ancestors. Through a critical content analysis, the study investigates the narrative, illustrating how the characters navigate bureaucratic, political, and structural barriers not merely as voiceless victims of state exclusion, but as active agents of their history. The research, therefore, demonstrates that displaced individuals assert a profound right to exist that transcends the presence or absence of legal documents.
