The Disneyfication of America: A Critical Analysis of Disney's Cultural Impact on American Society

Abstract

This thesis explores the Disneyfication process through a critical analysis of Disney's cultural impact on American society. The study aims to analyze how Disney portrays cultural norms in its films and their impact on American culture. The research adopted a qualitative research methodology to examine the case study of the Disney film, Moana, using textual analysis, visual analysis and Fairclough's critical discourse analysis methods. Accordingly, the film's two-part script, songs and scenes were systematically evaluated in relation to the presentation of American identity in its themes. The results of this study underscore the dual nature of Disneyfication as a mirror and model of American culture.
