Abstract

This paper explores the modeling and sizing of renewable energy generation facilities, focusing on wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. With the increasing adoption of these technologies, the study examines how renewable energy generation impacts demand forecasting and energy trade. The study highlights time series models as fundamental tools for analyzing energy storage needs and optimizing operating policies. The paper provides a historical overview of renewable energy policies and their role in reducing greenhouse gases, alongside case studies in regions like Ethiopia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Europe. The case studies analyze the balance between energy generation and demand in microgrids and explore load management strategies. Additionally, the paper discusses modeling techniques, simulation software, and methodologies for accurately sizing renewable energy systems. The findings emphasize the importance of renewable energy in achieving energy independence and mitigating climate change while addressing challenges like data availability and the variability of natural resources. Finally, the study highlights future trends and the need for integrated control structures in renewable energy facilities to enhance decision-making and improve system performance
