Ai-supported Digital Knowledge Management

Abstract

The rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence and large language models is fundamentally transforming how organizations manage and extract value from knowledge. This paper examines the paradigmatic shift from the knowledge economy, centered on information ownership, to an emerging cognitive economy where competitive advantage derives from intelligent, real-time human-AI knowledge processing. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, the study develops a theoretical framework tracing the evolution of knowledge management and analyzes how the transition from the VUCA to the BANI environment compels organizations to adopt adaptive, intelligence-driven models. Drawing on case studies from global organizations including Commonwealth Bank of Australia, KPMG, Netflix, and Amazon, the paper illustrates how AI, cloud computing, and retrieval-augmented generation enable a shift from static knowledge ownership toward dynamic value extraction. The study concludes that sustainable competitive advantage in the cognitive era requires an integrated equation of AI capabilities, human creativity, and robust digital infrastructure, alongside ethical governance frameworks for responsible AI deployment.
