Abstract

Abstruct: This thesis studies the relationship between the tribe and the ruling authority in the Beylik of the West during the era of the Beys (1671–1831), by analyzing the political, social, and economic interactions between the two parties. It focuses on the role of the tribes in supporting or opposing the local Ottoman rule, highlighting the mechanisms used by the Beys to subjugate or gain the loyalty of the tribes to ensure political stability. The thesis also examines aspects of cooperation and conflict, and explores the impact of regional and international shifts on these relations. The study relies on a comprehensive analysis of various sources and references, providing a deeper understanding of the political and social structures in Ottoman Algeria during this period. .
