Abstract

In this paper, we try to examine the status of the agricultural sector and food security in Algeria, which hadnumbers of policies and programs that it has applied to develop it, enhance food security and diversify sources of income, the most prominent of which is the agricultural development plan 2000-2004, the agricultural and rural development plan 2005-2009 And the Plan of Agricultural and Rural renovation 2009-2014, based on the Agricultural Guidance Law issued in 2008. With all these policies and programs applied, the sector did not achieve the desired results despite achieving significant growth rates, or narrowing the food gap. 15% of gross domestic product at best, and did not exceed the production ratio of 70% of the food consumption values, and the rest are covered by the import, which is a burden on the state and limits making development in other sectors..
