الآثار المتوقعة لمنطقة التبادل الحر الافريقية على التجارة

Abstract

This study aims to estimate the potential impact of activating the African Free Trade Area in Algeria on trade, welfare, and revenues by applying the SMART-WITS trade simulation model to 10 products, using international trade data for the year 2021. The study concluded that Algeria's imports from Africa could increase by more than 66.9 million USD annually, along with an improvement in the welfare of Algerian consumers by more than 7 million USD, corresponding to a loss in customs revenues exceeding 49 million USD. It is noted that most of these effects stem from importing food products such as coffee, legumes, and food preparations from African countries. Therefore, the study recommends the need to double efforts to enhance the competitiveness of local food products in terms of quality and cost control.
